Yōkai are supernatural creatures and phenomena from Japanese folklore. It’s a broad and fuzzy term that no English word can quite describe. It encompasses things we call monsters, demons, spirits, goblins, ghosts, gods, spirit possession, and urban legends, but also strange weather phenomena.
It’s best left untranslated — that’s why I did. ;)
